Deadline:
15.05.2023

The second edition of the «Alpine Changemaker Basecamp» (ACB), to be held in July 2023, will see around 20 participants from the Alpine region receiving support from our transnational and transdisciplinary network so as to implement their ideas for a sustainable and desirable future in the Alps.

The ACB offers the opportunity to advance and hone ideas and projects for social change and sustainable development in the Alpine region. The ACB acts as a genuine laboratory for new connections between knowledge and learning, a bridge between people from different cultures and backgrounds and as an incubator for change. It gives around 20 young and motivated people the opportunity to develop and implement their own future perspectives for a good life in the Alps together with like-minded people.

Who are we?

We are the «Alpine Changemaker Network», an international team of mentors from NGOs, science (architecture, cultural and environmental sciences), entrepreneurship, social innovation and regional development. We support and accompany participants during the Alpine Changemaker Basecamp in the implementation of their ideas. We provide various tools, offer new perspectives and share practical knowledge to facilitate and drive the implementation of the ideas.

What do we offer?

We offer five days of learning, reflection, personal development, the joy of change and exchange with like-minded but very different people from all over the Alpine region!

Following the Basecamp, there will be further offers for online mentoring in different formats until the end of the year. Here, the budding «changemakers» can once again obtain advice and know-how from the mentors, but also learn from the progress and experiences of the other participants.

Hard facts

  • We are located at BASIS Vinschgau Venosta – Social Activation Hub in Schlanders-Silandro (I).

When does the ACB23 take place, what happens there and what do I have to keep in mind?

The ACB23 will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of July at the BASIS Vinschgau Venosta in Silandro (South Tyrol). Only people who are present for the whole week can participate.

Basically you continue to work on your project. In the form of group inputs, individual coaching, peer-to-peer exchange and self-organised work, you are given exactly the right tools to take your personal ideas further. And you don't work alone: mentors are there to help you, and the changemakers support each other. The exact programme is currently being worked out and you will receive it after your application has been accepted. After the Basecamp, mentors will support you in the further development of the project.

Travelling: You are advised to come already on Sunday 2nd of July 2023 as the ACB starts on Monday morning. You will be equipped with the possibility to network (e.g. Signal-Group) among each other for carpooling, mutual support or self-organized meet ups on the evening of the 2nd of July. (Travel costs – see below)

Accommodation: Board and lodging in Schlanders will be organised by us. You will be accommodated in shared rooms.

What does the participation at the Basecamp cost?

The attendance fee for the camp will be 100.- Euros. This includes food, accommodation and mentoring (during and after the Basecamp) as well as trips into the region of Val Venosta (during the camp). You have to organise your own arrival and departure but travel costs up to 100.- Euro can be reimbursed afterwards against the original receipts.

How to apply to the Alpine Changemaker Basecamp?

For the application you have to fill out the questionnaire on our website. It contains questions on your project / your idea. Please fill it out as thoroughly as possible! You help us a lot – and make your selection easier  Don’t forget to push the «send»-button in the end.

Application period from the 15th of March until the 15th of May 2023!

How do we select participants?

There are two groups of participants:

  1. The network partners from universities/schools bring 1-2 participants from their institution. These participants also have to fill out the application template because we need to know as much as possible about the ideas for projects that are to be worked on during the Basecamp and the people behind it.

  2. There is an open call from the 15th of March – 15th of May for people between 18 and 30 from all over the Alps. Most relevant for selection is the motivation behind it and the stage of the project. It should not be too vague and unspecific but as clear as possible in its intentions and goals. Furthermore, we strive to support a balanced mix of m/f/d participants as well as participants from all Alpine countries.

When will I be notified if my application was successful?

You will receive an email from us approximately 5 day after the end of the application phase (around the 20th of May 2023) with the information if your application has been successful or not. When you got accepted, you will have time until the 30th of May 2023 to transfer the participation fee to our bank account (bank details will be sent by email and are also found on our website). Please send us the transfer confirmation from your bank by email. If we have not received anything by the 30th of May 2023, we will consider this as a rejection and your place will be given to someone from the waiting list.

What happens next?

In June there will be an online session to prepare you for the Basecamp. It happens on the 19th of June 2023 at 5-6 pm. The participants will receive a zoom link.

What is the BASIS Vinschgau Venosta, where the ACB23 is located?

BASIS Vinschgau Venosta is a reuse project of parts of the former Drusus barracks in Silandro, created as a start-up and innovation center. BASIS offers space for research, innovation, contemporary work models, circular economy and creativity. The goal is regional and social development and promotion in the areas of economy, education, culture and social affairs.

The building in which BASIS is housed is the former Palazzina Servizi in the Drusus barracks from 1936, which was renovated in 2019 with the support of the town of Silandro and the European Regional Development Fund.

The mission of BASIS is to offer projects, spaces, networks, courses, meetings and different events for the society. In this way BASIS supports the regional, economic and social development in Val Venosta.

What happens after the Alpine Changemaker Basecamp?

The mentoring programme after the Basecamp will be as followed: We plan several «Mondays on the couch», where a designated mentor / mentor group will be available in a zoom session and participants can join in and get feedback / support for their concern. As a final meeting we will organize a virtual Pecha Kucha Meet-Up. Here the participants can report on the status of their project, tell what progress has been made after the camp and share general questions and reflexions.

Who are we?

What do we want?

The Alps, with their diversity and contrasts, offer a wonderful space for experimentation with tradition and innovation. The sometimes adverse living conditions have always demanded imagination and flexibility from people. This potential we want to make visible and usable.

The Alpine Changemaker Network combines regionally grown knowledge, social innovation practices, scientific teaching and researching skills, project management skills and much more – and we want to collaborate, share and learn!

We wish to strengthen Alpine society and we envision the Alps as a thriving ecosystem, one that offers an appealing life both to ourselves and to future generations.
